Zhenya Liu is the Vice President of Engineering at WeRide and holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. With over 10 years of experience in L4 autonomous driving technology development, he is a seasoned professional in the field. Prior to joining WeRide, Liu worked at Baidu's Institute of Deep Learning (IDL), where he contributed to the early commercialization of autonomous driving in China.

In 2017, Liu joined WeRide, taking on various key roles such as Senior Algorithm Engineer for Decision and Planning, Head of the Product Engineering Team, Head of the Decision, Planning, and Control Team, and Vice President of Engineering.

Liu spearheaded WeRide’s MiniBus project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing urban public transportation. The project focuses on developing autonomous buses that are both safe and efficient, with the goal of serving the general public. Launched in June 2020, the WeRide MiniBus has now been deployed in over 30 cities across multiple countries, operating in fully autonomous mode.

Additionally, Liu played a pivotal role in leading WeRide’s Robotaxi project. This ambitious initiative seeks to establish a fully autonomous taxi service network, providing users with a more convenient and reliable travel option. The first batch of self-driving taxis was launched in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District in 2019 as the first commercialized robotaxi service and in 2023, WeRide began operating fully autonomous taxis in Beijing’s Yizhuang district.
